The Austrian artist and theoretician Peter Weibel developed a different kind of programme for “steirischer herbst” - the well-known avant-garde festival in Graz. The relationship between “Art and Global Media” was addressed not only in a comprehensive film programme but also directly in the media itself in the form of advertisements with both artistic and more scientific content which were placed in international newspapers during the course of a whole year in cooperation with the Vienna-based museum in progress.
Contributors to the “Signs of Trouble” lecture series accepted Peter Weibel’s invitation to participate in this unusual exhibition project by designing full page spreads in “Der Standard” – an Austrian daily newspaper with a weekday readership of up to 377,000.
In 2001 the MIT Press published the book “Net Condition: Art and Global Media” which, in addition to documenting the exhibition, also contains the media contributions to the “Signs of Trouble” project.
