Liquid Frontiers
Heinrich Büchel
The title of the exhibition has a programmatic double meaning. Firstly, this is a pilot project which, even internationally, is one of the first attempts to use the new multimedia possibilities of 3G mobile telephone technology as a source of artistic content or as a medium for experimental design. Secondly, the description is seen as a guarantor for the freshness and quality of the work of the 22 internationally known graphic designers, illustrators, comic book artists, graffiti artists, filmmakers, video clip directors, software developers and computer game designers who developed a total of 122 different works for the 3G mobile telephone.
The program of First Flush consists of individual, self-contained episodes or cinematic serial novels with lengths between 15 seconds and two minutes per episode which offer a representative cross-section of the current possibilities of advanced media design in Europe, the USA, Brazil, and Japan.
The content, which can be accessed at any time from any point on the network of the mobile operator “3” includes hand-drawn cartoon films, typographic road movies, abstract software suites, low-tech cartoons, high-tech animation, typographic tales, digital poems and visual pop songs.
