Growing the City Farm
Carrier 3 – Intensive care unit for nature and culture

An atmosphere that stimulates the exchange of information and ideas as well as excellent infrastructure are among the key benefits that Funkensprung, a company specializing in coworking and consulting, offers its users at three locations in Vienna. In line with this cooperative attitude, Funkensprung also plays an active role in the neighborhood, which is to be further expanded.

The Carrier was adapted in terms of the number, arrangement and equipment of the modules in line with the special features of the location directly on a busy street not far from the city center, the needs of the operator and, last but not least, the requirements of the city administration.

A major programmatic innovation is the stronger emphasis on the connections between nature and culture. Artists from various disciplines are therefore invited to participate in the cultivation of the garden with specific interventions.

It all starts with the writer and photographer Peter Paul Wiplinger, who lives next door and has won many awards and been translated into more than 20 languages. He writes down passages from his extensive lyrical work on one of the display boards, thus constantly providing suggestions for refining our perception of this small city garden and its surroundings.

The official approval for a further 12 months provides the opportunity to prove that under the guidance of the winter vegetable experts at City Farm Augarten, a successful year-round garden operation is indeed possible.
