Starting with the question of which images our culture currently connects with such abstract concepts as “fusion”, “platform” or “network”, the artist develops a panorama, whose drastic force and dynamism recall motifs of the classic industrial age, but in reality depict if anything today’s “liquid modernism” (Zygmunt Bauman) in which all hard edges are becoming increasingly blurred.

Anita Witek (*1970)

studied painting at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and photography at the Royal Collage and is now back living in Vienna after many years in London.
As a conceptual photographer, the artist is especially interested in that quasi subcutaneous content which photographers also always capture alongside their principal subjects – such as the spaces in which their photographic scenes are set. For this reason she collects photographic images from a range of print media sources and uses these to create collages which she then photographs.
Anita Witek regularly exhibits in both one-person and group shows in Austria and abroad.
